How Often Should You Get a Haircut? A Barber's Honest Guide

Every style has a rhythm. Here is how often to book based on your cut, your hair type, and how sharp you want to look between visits.

There is no single answer, but there is a rule of thumb: the shorter and sharper the cut, the sooner it needs attention. A tight skin fade and a long scissor cut age completely differently. Here is how to read your own hair.

Skin fades and short cuts: every 2 to 3 weeks

A fade is sharpest the day you get it and softens fast as the shortest hair grows back first. If the clean line at the temple is what you love, you will want it refreshed every two to three weeks. Many regulars book a standing appointment for exactly this reason.

Classic short back and sides: every 3 to 4 weeks

A little more length on top buys you a little more time. Three to four weeks keeps the shape without letting it lose its edge. Push past five and the cut starts wearing you rather than the other way around.

Longer scissor cuts: every 5 to 8 weeks

Longer styles are forgiving. They grow into themselves rather than out of shape, so you can stretch to six weeks or more. The visit is less about correction and more about keeping the weight and texture right.

Beards keep their own clock

Even between haircuts, a beard benefits from a tidy every two to three weeks. The neckline and cheek line blur first; keeping them clean is what separates a kept beard from a neglected one.

Book to the line you love, not to the calendar.

If you are not sure, ask your barber at the end of the cut. We will tell you honestly when to come back for your hair, your style, and how you like to look.
